History of Karnataka

Karnataka, located in southern India, has a rich history that dates back to ancient times. Initially home to various dynasties, it flourished under the Mauryas and the Western Chalukyas. The Vijayanagara Empire (14th-17th centuries) marked a golden age, promoting arts and architecture. The region faced invasions from the Mughal Empire and later came under British rule in the 18th century. Post-independence in 1947, Karnataka emerged as a state in 1956 after the reorganization of borders. Today, it is known for its cultural heritage, IT industry in Bengaluru, and diverse languages, particularly Kannada.
