Heteroglossia, a concept from linguist Mikhail Bakhtin, refers to the presence of multiple voices, perspectives, or styles within a single text or conversation. It highlights how different social groups, ideas, or viewpoints coexist and influence communication, creating a rich and diverse linguistic landscape. Rather than a single, uniform voice, heteroglossia recognizes that language is shaped by various social contexts and power relations, reflecting the complexity of human dialogue and understanding. In essence, it shows that different ways of speaking and thinking are always interacting within any communicative act.
