Hero of the Soviet Union

The Hero of the Soviet Union was the highest honorary title awarded for heroic deeds in the Soviet military and civilian sectors, established in 1934. Recipients were often recognized for acts of bravery, leadership in battle, or significant contributions to the Soviet state, especially during World War II. Awardees received a medal and a certificate, and their names became part of Soviet history, celebrated in various ways. The title aimed to instill pride and encourage valor among citizens and armed forces. It was abolished in 1991 with the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
