Henry Johnson was a brave African American soldier in World War I, known for his extraordinary courage during a fierce battle in France in 1918. Despite being outnumbered and wounded, he fought off enemy soldiers with a rifle, a knife, and his fists, saving his comrades from capture and death. His heroism earned him the French Croix de Guerre and the U.S. Medal of Honor, making him one of the first Americans and the first African American to receive this top military honor.
