Helvetii

The Helvetii were a Celtic tribe that inhabited what is now Switzerland during ancient times. Around 58 BC, they attempted to migrate to western Gaul (modern France) in search of new lands but faced resistance from Roman forces led by Julius Caesar. This conflict is noted in Caesar's writings, where he describes their journey and the eventual battle. The Helvetii were ultimately defeated, and their migration was halted, leading to their assimilation into a growing Roman influence in the region. Their name is believed to be the origin of the modern name for Switzerland, "Helvetia."
