Helioseismology

Helioseismology is the study of the Sun's internal structure by analyzing its oscillations or "waves." Just as seismologists study earthquake waves to learn about Earth's interior, scientists observe sound waves generated within the Sun. These waves travel through different layers and cause surface movements. By measuring these movements and their patterns, researchers can infer information about the Sun's composition, temperature, and magnetic fields. This valuable knowledge helps us understand solar behavior and its effects on the solar system, including space weather phenomena that can impact Earth.
