Heinrich von Gagern

Heinrich von Gagern (1799–1880) was a prominent German politician and statesman during the 19th century. He is best known for his role in the German Revolution of 1848, which aimed for democratic reforms and national unity in the fragmented German states. Gagern served as the president of the Frankfurt Assembly, the first elected parliament for Germany, where he advocated for liberal principles, such as individual rights and a unified nation. Although the revolution ultimately failed, his efforts contributed to the later unification of Germany in 1871 and influenced the development of modern German democracy.
