HDL function
High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL) is often called “good” cholesterol because it helps remove excess cholesterol from the bloodstream and arteries. HDL particles collect cholesterol from the body’s tissues and transport it back to the liver, where it can be processed and eliminated. This process helps prevent the build-up of plaque in the arteries, reducing the risk of heart disease and strokes. In essence, HDL acts as a cleaning and transport system that maintains healthy cholesterol levels and promotes cardiovascular health.
