Hans Spemann
Hans Spemann was a German embryologist renowned for his pioneering work in developmental biology. He is best known for his experiments in the early 20th century, where he demonstrated how certain cells in an embryo can influence the development of neighboring cells, a concept he called "morphogenetic fields." Spemann’s work laid the foundation for understanding how complex organisms develop from a single fertilized egg. In 1935, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his contributions to the field. His research has had lasting implications in genetics, regenerative medicine, and our understanding of cell differentiation.
