Halons

Halons are chemical compounds, typically containing bromine, carbon, and sometimes other elements, used mainly as firefighting agents. They work by interrupting the chemical reactions in a fire, effectively stopping it from spreading. Halons are effective because they don’t leave residues and can quickly suppress fires in sensitive environments like data centers and aircraft. However, because they contain ozone-depleting substances, their production has been phased out under international agreements, and alternative, environmentally friendly firefighting agents are now used instead.
