Gwynfor Evans

Gwynfor Evans (1912-2005) was a significant Welsh politician and a prominent advocate for Welsh nationalism. He was a key figure in the establishment of Plaid Cymru, the Party of Wales, in 1925 and became its first Member of Parliament (MP) in 1966. Evans was instrumental in promoting the Welsh language and culture, pushing for devolution and greater autonomy for Wales. His activism included a hunger strike in 1979 to demand a Welsh-language television service, which contributed to securing a commitment from the UK government. His legacy is marked by his dedication to achieving political recognition and rights for Wales.
