
Gwynfor Evans (politician)
Gwynfor Evans was a Welsh politician and a founder of the Welsh nationalist party, Plaid Cymru. Born in 1912, he dedicated his life to promoting Welsh culture, language, and independence. In 1966, he became the first Member of Parliament (MP) representing a Welsh nationalist party, campaigning to preserve Wales’s language and identity. Evans played a significant role in fostering Welsh political awareness and advocating for greater self-governance, laying the groundwork for future devolution efforts. He served as an MP until 1970 and remained a prominent figure in Welsh politics until his death in 2005.
