Greenwood District

The Greenwood District, known as "Black Wall Street," was a thriving African American community in Tulsa, Oklahoma during the early 20th century. It featured successful businesses, shops, and banks owned by Black residents, demonstrating economic independence and growth. In 1921, it was tragically destroyed in a violent massacre, leading to loss of life and property. Today, Greenwood represents both a symbol of Black achievement and a reminder of racial violence, with ongoing efforts to preserve its history and promote community resilience.
