Gharial (crocodile)
The gharial is a unique species of crocodilian found primarily in the rivers of India and Nepal. It is distinguished by its long, thin snout, which is adapted for catching fish, its primary diet. Gharials have a distinctive appearance, featuring a bulbous growth at the tip of the male's snout, known as a ghara, which is used in mating displays. They prefer freshwater habitats and are excellent swimmers, but they are currently endangered due to habitat loss and fishing practices. Conservation efforts are underway to protect this fascinating and specialized reptile.
