German education system
The German education system is divided into several stages. Children typically start with 'Grundschule' (elementary school) at age 6, lasting four years. Afterward, students are directed to different secondary schools based on academic performance: 'Hauptschule' (basic), 'Realschule' (intermediate), or 'Gymnasium' (academic). Gymnasium prepares students for universities. Vocational training is also significant, combining education with apprenticeships. The system emphasizes both academic and practical skills, and education is largely state-funded, ensuring broad access. Higher education institutions include universities and universities of applied sciences, offering degrees at various levels.
