Geomagnetism

Geomagnetism is the study of Earth's magnetic field, which extends from the planet's core into space. This field, also known as the geomagnetic field, is essential for our survival as it protects us from harmful solar radiation. It's also the reason we can use compasses for direction, as the field causes the needle to align North-South. The geomagnetic field is not constant; it varies in strength and direction over time, due to processes happening in the Earth’s liquid outer core. Understanding geomagnetism helps us learn about Earth's interior and past, and predict space weather impacts.
