Garnishment Process
Garnishment is a legal process where a creditor obtains a court order to collect money directly from a debtor's wages or bank accounts. This typically happens after the creditor wins a lawsuit for an unpaid debt. Once the court issues the order, the debtor's employer or bank is legally required to withhold a portion of the debtor's earnings or funds and send that money to the creditor until the debt is paid off. The process ensures creditors can recover owed amounts while providing the debtor a portion of their income for living expenses.
