Fungus farming
Fungus farming is a natural process where insects, like certain ants and beetles, cultivate fungi as a primary food source. These insects actively gather plant material, such as leaves or small organic matter, which they deposit in their nests. The fungi grow on this material, and the insects tend and protect the fungi from pests and disease. They harvest the fungal tissue to feed themselves and their colonies. This mutualistic relationship benefits both parties: insects receive nutritious food, and fungi get a ready environment with fresh organic substrate for growth.
