Fort Ancient
Fort Ancient is a significant archaeological site located in southwestern Ohio, known for its impressive earthworks created by prehistoric Native American cultures around 100 B.C. to A.D. 500. The site features a series of large, complex mounds and earthen walls that encircle a high plateau overlooking the Little Miami River. Believed to have been used for ceremonial and possibly astronomical purposes, Fort Ancient is one of the largest and most intricate ancient earthworks in North America. It reflects the ingenuity, social organization, and spiritual practices of the indigenous peoples who inhabited the region long before European contact.
