Football League

The Football League, established in 1888, was the first organized league competition for professional football (soccer) clubs in England. It originally consisted of 12 teams competing against each other, with the team finishing at the top crowned the champion. Over time, it expanded and evolved into a structure of multiple divisions, including the Premier League, which became the top tier of English football in 1992. The League's format emphasizes promotion and relegation, allowing the best teams to move up and underperforming teams to drop down. It played a crucial role in shaping modern football in England and beyond.
