Fields (mathematics)
In mathematics, a field is a special set of numbers where you can perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division (except by zero) while still staying within that set. For example, the set of rational numbers (fractions) is a field because you can add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions and still get a fraction. Common examples of fields include the set of real numbers and the set of complex numbers. Fields are fundamental in mathematics because they provide a consistent structure for calculations and are used in various areas, such as algebra and calculus.
