Fengjian

Fengjian, or "feudalism," refers to a historical system where land was owned by a few powerful lords who granted portions of it to vassals in exchange for loyalty and military service. This system, prevalent in ancient China, allowed local lords to govern their lands semi-autonomously while providing support to a central authority, like the emperor. The arrangement helped maintain order and security but often led to a fragmented political structure. Over time, as centralized governance became stronger, Fengjian declined, giving way to more unified forms of political control and administration.
