Family-based treatment
Family-based treatment (FBT) is a therapeutic approach primarily used for eating disorders, especially in children and adolescents. It involves the family in the recovery process, empowering them to take an active role in supporting their loved one. The treatment occurs in three phases: initially focusing on weight restoration and healthy eating, then encouraging adolescents to gradually gain independence, and finally addressing any underlying emotional or relational issues. By fostering open communication and teamwork, FBT helps families heal together, improving not just the individual’s health but the family dynamic as well.
