Family and Medical Leave Rights provide eligible employees the ability to take unpaid, job-protected leave for specific family and medical reasons without losing their job. This includes up to 12 weeks of leave for the birth or adoption of a child, to care for a seriously ill family member, or for the employee’s own serious health condition. Employers cannot retaliate against employees for using this leave, ensuring they can return to the same or a comparable job after their leave ends. Eligibility typically applies to businesses with 50 or more employees, among other criteria.
