EZLN
The EZLN, or Zapatista Army of National Liberation, is a revolutionary group in Mexico known for its indigenous roots and advocacy for indigenous rights. Founded in 1994, it gained attention after a brief uprising in Chiapas, opposing neoliberal economic policies and governmental corruption. The group seeks social and economic justice, promoting democracy, land reform, and local governance. Led by the charismatic Subcomandante Marcos, the EZLN has emphasized grassroots organization and dialogue rather than conventional armed struggle, aiming to create a more equitable society while highlighting issues of poverty and exploitation faced by Mexico’s indigenous populations.
