Tzotzil
Tzotzil is a Mayan language spoken by the indigenous Tzotzil people primarily in the Chiapas region of southern Mexico. It is part of the larger Mayan language family and features complex verb forms, rich vocabulary, and unique grammar structures. Tzotzil is used in daily life, cultural practices, and traditional ceremonies, and many speakers also speak Spanish. Preservation of the language is important for maintaining Tzotzil cultural identity, and efforts are underway to promote its teaching and use among younger generations.
