Ernst Georg Ravenstein
Ernst Georg Ravenstein was a 19th-century German geographer and demographer known for his work on human migration patterns. He formulated several principles, often called Ravenstein's Laws of Migration, which describe how and why people move from one place to another. His observations included ideas such as migrants typically traveling short distances and the tendency for people to move from rural to urban areas. His work laid the foundation for modern migration studies and highlighted the social and economic factors influencing population movements. His insights continue to inform research in demography and geography today.
