Erligang culture refers to an ancient Chinese civilization that existed around 1600 to 1400 BCE, during the Bronze Age, primarily in the central plains of China, particularly in regions present-day Henan Province. Characterized by advanced metallurgy, Erligang sites reveal sophisticated bronze artifacts, including weapons and ritual vessels, indicating a complex society with social hierarchies and religious practices. The culture also shows evidence of urban development, with fortified cities and extensive trade networks. Erligang is considered a precursor to the later Shang Dynasty, contributing to the early foundations of Chinese civilization and culture.
