Epistemic Injustice
Epistemic injustice refers to when someone is unfairly treated or dismissed in relation to their knowledge claims or participation in knowledge sharing. It often happens when a person's credibility is unjustly doubted because of their social identity (e.g., gender, race). There are two kinds: testimonial injustice (bias in the assessment of a person's trustworthiness) and hermeneutical injustice (lack of resources for somebody to understand their social experience). Both forms harm a person's ability to contribute to and participate in the pursuit of knowledge.
