Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR)

Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) is a protein found on the surface of many cells. It plays a key role in controlling cell growth, division, and repair by transmitting signals when it detects specific molecules called growth factors. Proper function of EGFR helps maintain healthy skin and tissues. However, mutations or overactivity of EGFR can lead to uncontrolled cell growth, contributing to the development of certain cancers. Because of this, EGFR is an important target for some cancer treatments, which aim to block its activity and slow or stop tumor progression.
