Elizabeth Garrett Anderson

Elizabeth Garrett Anderson (1836-1917) was a pioneering British physician and the first woman to qualify as a doctor in Britain. She broke barriers in a male-dominated field, advocating for women's rights in medicine and education. After facing initial rejections from medical schools, she finally earned her medical degree in 1865. In 1874, she became the first woman to earn a medical qualification in Britain from the Society of Apothecaries. Anderson also co-founded the London School of Medicine for Women, promoting female medical education. Her contributions significantly advanced women's roles in healthcare and laid the groundwork for future generations of female doctors.
