EGD (Esophagogastroduodenoscopy)

Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) is a medical procedure used to examine the upper part of the digestive system, including the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum, which is the first part of the small intestine. During the procedure, a thin, flexible tube with a camera and light, called an endoscope, is gently inserted through the mouth and into the digestive tract. This allows doctors to view images on a screen, diagnose conditions, and sometimes perform treatments, like taking biopsies or removing growths. EGD is useful for investigating symptoms like persistent heartburn, nausea, or unexplained abdominal pain.
