Esophagogastroduodenoscopy

An esophagogastroduodenoscopy, often called an EGD or upper endoscopy, is a medical procedure that allows doctors to examine the lining of your esophagus, stomach, and the beginning of your small intestine. During the procedure, a flexible tube with a tiny camera and light at the end (called an endoscope) is gently inserted through your mouth. This helps doctors look for issues like inflammation, ulcers, or abnormal growths. The procedure is usually brief, performed under sedation for comfort, and helps diagnose and sometimes treat conditions affecting your upper digestive tract.
