Edward of Westminster

Edward of Westminster, born in 1453, was the only legitimate son of King Henry VI of England and Margaret of Anjou. He became a symbol of the Lancastrian cause during the Wars of the Roses, a series of civil wars for control of the English throne. When his father was overthrown by Edward IV of the rival Yorkist faction, Edward of Westminster was thrust into a turbulent political landscape. He was crowned Prince of Wales but was killed in the Battle of Tewkesbury in 1471, which effectively ended Lancastrian hopes for recovery of the throne. His death marked a turning point in the conflict.
