East Pakistan

East Pakistan was a region in the eastern part of what is now Bangladesh. It was part of Pakistan from 1947 until 1971. The area was culturally and linguistically distinct from West Pakistan (now simply Pakistan), leading to political tensions and demands for autonomy. Discontent grew due to economic disparities and political marginalization. In 1971, following a brutal civil war and conflict with West Pakistan, East Pakistan gained independence, becoming Bangladesh. This movement highlighted issues of national identity, governance, and the rights of ethnic minorities, shaping the political landscape of South Asia.
