Duverger's Law

Duverger's Law is a political theory suggesting that in countries with a simple, winner-takes-all electoral system (like most major democracies), there tends to be a tendency toward a two-party system. This occurs because voters and political candidates prefer to align with the most competitive parties to avoid "wasting" their votes, which discourages support for smaller parties. Over time, this dynamic naturally fosters two dominant parties that compete for power, making it difficult for smaller or new parties to gain significant influence within such electoral frameworks.
