Dowry
Dowry is a cultural practice in which the family of a bride provides gifts, money, or property to the groom and his family at the time of marriage. This tradition is prevalent in several societies worldwide, especially in parts of South Asia. While historically intended to help establish a new household, dowries can sometimes lead to negative consequences, such as the commodification of women and financial burdens on the bride's family. In some regions, dowry-related issues have sparked social movements for reform, aiming to mitigate abuse and promote gender equality.
