Dowry Deaths
Dowry deaths refer to the deaths of women in India, typically because of harassment or violence related to unpaid dowry demands made by the husband's family. Often, these women are subjected to emotional, physical, or economic abuse when dowry expectations are not met. If a woman dies under suspicious circumstances or commits suicide, and her death is linked to dowry-related issues, it is classified as a dowry death. Despite laws banning dowry and related violence, these tragedies continue due to deep-rooted social attitudes and enforcement challenges.
