Douglas Prasher
Douglas Prasher is an American biochemist known for his pivotal role in the development of green fluorescent protein (GFP). GFP, originally found in jellyfish, became a powerful tool in molecular and cellular biology, allowing scientists to visually track proteins and study biological processes in living organisms. Despite his crucial contributions in the early research on GFP, Prasher faced challenges in securing funding and recognition, leading him to leave the field. His work, however, laid the groundwork for groundbreaking advancements in biotechnology, earning widespread acknowledgment, including a share of the 2008 Nobel Prize in Chemistry awarded to others who built upon his findings.
