Douay-Rheims Bible

The Douay-Rheims Bible is a translation of the Bible from the Latin Vulgate into English, completed in the late 16th century by Catholic scholars. The translation was done in two main stages: the New Testament was published in 1582 in Rheims, France, and the Old Testament was completed in 1609 in Douay, France. It aimed to provide English-speaking Catholics with access to Scripture while countering Protestant translations. Known for its formal and poetic language, it significantly influenced Catholic Bible scholarship and remains important in Catholic tradition, similar to the King James Version in Protestant contexts.
