Donor Lymphocyte Infusion

Donor Lymphocyte Infusion (DLI) is a medical treatment used primarily after a stem cell or bone marrow transplant. It involves taking immune cells, known as lymphocytes, from a healthy donor (often the original stem cell donor) and infusing them into a patient who has relapsed or not fully responded to the transplant. The infused lymphocytes help to recognize and attack any remaining cancer cells, enhancing the body's immune response. DLI can improve the chances of recovery but may also cause side effects, since the newly infused cells can sometimes react against the patient's normal tissues.
