DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis)
Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a serious complication of diabetes where the body can't use sugar properly due to a lack of insulin. Without enough insulin, the body starts breaking down fats for energy, producing acids called ketones. High ketone levels cause the blood to become too acidic, leading to symptoms like rapid breathing, dehydration, confusion, and nausea. DKA is most common in people with type 1 diabetes but can occur in type 2 as well. It requires immediate treatment to restore normal blood sugar, correct acid levels, and address dehydration to prevent serious health risks.
