Disorders of Sex Development
Disorders of Sex Development (DSDs) are a group of conditions where a child’s reproductive or sexual anatomy doesn't fit typical definitions of male or female. This can be due to genetic, hormonal, or structural differences that occur during fetal development. Signs of DSD can appear at birth or during puberty, and may involve ambiguous genitalia, unexpected hormonal levels, or variations in chromosomes. Pediatric endocrinologists specialize in diagnosing and managing these conditions, focusing on a comprehensive approach that includes medical care, support for families, and consideration of the child's physical and emotional well-being.
