Disk diffusion assay
The disk diffusion assay is a laboratory method used to test how effective antibiotics are against bacteria. In this test, small paper disks soaked in antibiotics are placed on a gel surface where bacteria have been spread. After incubating the dish, scientists observe the area around each disk. If the bacteria are sensitive to an antibiotic, a clear zone will appear around the disk, indicating that the bacteria couldn't grow there. The size of this zone helps determine how well the antibiotic works, guiding doctors in selecting the appropriate treatment for infections.
