Diffuse reflection
Diffuse reflection occurs when light hits a rough or uneven surface, such as paper or a wall, causing the light to scatter in many directions rather than reflecting back in a single beam. This scattering makes the surface appear illuminated and visible from various angles. Unlike specular reflection, which occurs on smooth surfaces like mirrors (where light reflects uniformly), diffuse reflection allows us to see objects with varying colors and textures from different viewpoints, contributing to how we perceive our surroundings in everyday life.
