DHCP relay
DHCP relay is a network function that helps devices obtain IP addresses from a DHCP server that's on a different network segment. When a device connects, it sends a broadcast request for an IP address, but since routers usually block broadcasts between networks, the relay acts as an intermediary. It forwards the request to the DHCP server on behalf of the device, then delivers the assigned IP address back to the device. This process ensures devices can get network configurations seamlessly, even when they are on separate networks from the DHCP server.
