Democratic Republic of Vietnam
The Democratic Republic of Vietnam was the official name of North Vietnam from 1945 to 1976, following its declaration of independence from France after World War II. It was led by the communist party under Ho Chi Minh and aimed to unify Vietnam under communist rule. The country fought against South Vietnam and its allies, including the United States, in the Vietnam War. In 1976, North Vietnam and South Vietnam reunited, forming the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The Democratic Republic of Vietnam represents the period of North Vietnam’s existence as a communist state striving for independence and unification.
