Deification (Theosis)
Deification, or Theosis, is a concept primarily in Christian theology, particularly within Eastern Orthodox Christianity. It refers to the process by which a believer comes to share in the divine nature and life of God. This does not mean becoming God in essence, but rather attaining a closer union with God through spiritual growth, grace, and virtuous living. Theosis emphasizes the transformative relationship between humans and the divine, highlighting the potential for spiritual elevation and communion with God, ultimately aiming for eternal life and fulfillment in divine love.
