Debordian Theory

Debordian Theory, developed by philosopher Guy Debord, focuses on the concept of "the spectacle," which refers to the way modern society prioritizes images, consumerism, and superficial experiences over genuine human interaction and authenticity. Debord argued that this spectacle creates a disconnect, where people engage more with mediated representations of reality than with reality itself. In essence, our perceptions and experiences are shaped by images and media, leading to alienation and a loss of critical thinking. Debord's work critiques how capitalism commodifies life, making individuals passive spectators rather than active participants in their own lives.
