David Dale

David Dale (1739–1792) was a Scottish manufacturer and social reformer known for his contributions to the early development of the factory system. He established one of the first successful cotton mills in Scotland and was a pioneer in improving working conditions for laborers. Dale is also noted for his efforts in education and social welfare, particularly in the community around his mill in New Lanark, where he implemented programs to support workers and their families. His progressive ideas influenced the movement towards better labor practices during the Industrial Revolution, making him a key figure in industrial history.
